Bacteria in a well or from any source for that matter is not safe for drinking. It would be important to find the source of the contamination & prevent any further leakage into the well. To get the water back to the stage that it is safe to drink would require the pipe flow from the well going through a UV Sterilisation process before being safe to drink. The water would pass through the stainless steel chamber & make contact with an Ultra Violet bulb which would kill any bacteria present. UV has become the superior method of disinfection in the water treatment industry.
